There is a story that goes with the plant below. I
inherited this Little Jewel from my mom. In fact, I was with her when
she bought it. But the name wore off the Optimara name tag long ago. I
emailed Optimara and included a link to pictures. Optimara said it
**looked like** Little Turquoise. There are some differences, though.
Look at the Optimara picture on their website (link above). Their plant
has pansy shaped flowers and the description says the leaves are ovate.
I received leaves from a friend in Michigan that produced plants with
ovate leaves. My mom's plant has pointed leaves. It also blooms as a
semi-double star. All it's missing is the long, narrow petals... My beloved plant I inherited from my mom. This is one of the first pictures I took of this plant. More photos below.
Taken with my oldest digital camera a few years ago. I still love this picture.
Light from the north window makes it look too blue
Indoor lighting (above). Sometimes the flowers look like semi-double stars with a cluster of anthers in the center and sometimes it blooms with semi-double pansies. No doubt the confusing bloom combinations confused retailers when they tried to match up plants and names. Sometimes I wonder if my plant is really a malformed Violet Sapphire.
As much as I love the plant I got from my mom, I am still collecting Little Turquoise from other people. Below is a nice little plant I got from my friend Terry. It has the ovate leaves mentioned in the Optimara description.
